Fan motor- Again 200 1989

I know that this has been discussed many times before but: the fan motor on my (new to me) 1989 255 will not work. The previous owner states NO NOISE, worked intermittently then stopped. I bought the Bentley and Cholton books but they only cover replacement not trouble shooting. None show the placement of resister(?),or how to check from the fuse (which works) to the motor.
Before I replace the motor, are there any other components that I can check? Where is the resistor. Is there a relay? etc. Dont wand to replace the motor if that is not the problem. Any way to test the motor in place?
