blower motor 700

ive got an 1987 765ti wagon witrh the ACC climate control, and my blower motor is making the most hideous screeching noises. THe noises usualkly come on after 20 sec. or so and continue till the fan is turned off. Often by turning the fan off, then on again the noises stop , but then come back quickly, Ive had the blower motors replaced a couple times now, and this still is a facor. it seems like they last 18 months then die, this wouldnt be much of a problem but i live in atlantic canada where it is very easy to fog/frost up

im just looking to see what the average lifespan on thses things is,
and what is teh best repacement(i know there are a few supliers of nearly identical blower motors)
