Under-Car protective spray 200

Until now, both my car and I have spent the majority of our lives in the South. With winter on the horizon, I'm wondering what steps should be taken to protect the underside of my trusty 81 242 from road-salt etc. Who should I ask to apply the under-car protection, and how much should I expect to pay? Or, is this really necessary if everything looks ok under there?
