My old volvo meets Sears 200 1978

Hi, I'm new to the list. My name is Sarah. I'm 20 years old and
I'm the very proud owner of a green 1978 244DL. I recently had a
rebuilt steering rack put in by my mechanic - Lee Holman aka
volvogirl, if you know her of her. I then took it to Sears to get a
computer alignment done. The next week I was back at volvogirl
getting a couple of things checked when she noticed that the boot
was twisted and torn, presumably from the alignment. I took it
back to Sears and they would only partially own up to doing it.
They said that it twisted because it was attached too tightly
with a nylon tie (which it was not, and then they reattached it
with a nylon tie) and therefore not their fault. They also said
that it happened while I was driving, which, as volvogirl
explained to me, can't happen. They charged me for the part, and in
replacing it saw that an outer tie-rod was stripped. Of course, they
were quick to blame this on volvogirl. So, I took the old part
to her yesterday and turns out she never touched that part, not to mention the fact that she doesn't have tools with enough power to damage a part like that! So, either a mechanic that worked on my car before I owned it
stripped it, or Sears did it. In addition, she said that there was no
reason for Sears to ever have taken off the part, and if they
hadn't, I could have gotten quite a bit more use out of it. I
also had to pay to replace the tie-rod.
Sears also put put in a new high beam headlight for me so that I could pass inspection. Not only did they aim the headlight incorrectly, but they also did not place the frame around the headlights back in correctly.
Also at Sears a mechanic said to my face that my car wasn't worth putting much work into because "it's just a '78." Needless to say, I'm furious, and I
plan to pursue this and file numerous complaints. I'm interested in hearing what you all have to think of this situation and I'm wondering if any of you have ever had an similar problems with
Sears.
Peace,
Sarah from Maine
