Carter Pre-Pump Kit from NAPA 700 1989

I'm relatively new to this site - easily the best and most informative auto site I've ever seen. Info I found on this site didn't get my car started, but helped me to narrow it down.

Picked up a Carter pre pump kit from NAPA. Kit includes pump, sock, short hose, and all o-rings, clamps, etc, cost $60.00. Anybody have any experience with this kit, good or bad?

1989 744 died on the road. here is a list of what it's not, and what I'm pretty sure it's not.
Ignition. Getting spark at all plugs, went ahead anyway and changed cap, rotor, plugs. Just to be sure, tested coil in my other car, 89 244. works fine.
Timing. Belt intact, rotor points to #1 position when #1 is at TDC. (Old wooden dowel in the spark plug hole trick.) therefore, belt didn't slip or jump a tooth. Not timing.
Fuel.
Relay works fine. Removed cover, watched and heard it click (both relays) when I turned to KP II.
Radio Suppression Relay. Closes at KP II, lights a test light on batt, ECU and injector leads.
Injectors. Clicking like crazy when cranking. Also all OBD diagnostics read OK, including injector, IAC, cold start injector, etc.
At KP II, Main Fuel pump runs for about two seconds, hose leading to main pump pressurizes. Also runs while cranking, no outrageous noises.
Can not, however, hear the pre pump, even with a stethoscope against the tank.
Swapped Fuel Pressure Regulator to other volvo, works fine.
Swapped ECU to other Volvo, works fine.
Scum and crud. Cleaned throttle body, new flame trap screen, cleaned out all hoses.
Fuel getting to rail, both on pressurization and cranking, but stream seems weak.
Just for fun, I sprayed a shot of injector cleaner into the intake, cranked it up - car tried to fire on that, then when back to cranking with no fire.

Seems to be narrowed down to in tank pump/filter/hose, main fuel filter or combination of both resulting in low pressure. (don't have a pressure tester)
So, this morning I crawled into the trunk, removed the cover plate, and then realized that I would be prevented from doing the work by a back problem, a yellow streak running north to south - working around a half full tank of gas just doesn't appeal to me.:-D So it's off to the shop tomorrow, pre-pump R&R and main filter.
Anyway, much thanks to all who have contributed in the past to build this great site.
