Hi Gang,
I posted this a while back and got no response so I thought I give it another shot. I also tried a "brake noise" search. Lotta stuff there, but I didn't see anything about this problem.
Anyway, when I brake (especally hard) there is a low pitched groan that I think originates from the front brakes. The frequency (pitch) diminishes as the speed drops.
I decided to replace both the front rotors and pads to try to get rid of the noise. I installed the rotors and PBR pads, only to have the noise persist.....no change at all. I was careful to make sure that the caliper pins were free and lubricated, and that the pads were not hanging up.
I have entertained the idea of chamfering the leading edges of the pads to try to reduce "skip", but I doubt that that is the problem.
Are OEM pads the answer?
Thanks for your help.
