Hi all. I'm new to working on my car and could use help understanding the flame trap. Can ya'll walk me through what the various parts and hoses are that make it up? I see one fairly narrow hose coming up to it, a larger hose leading away from it down to the air intake, and a piece of rubber around it that slides onto the intake manifold (?). I think the trap itself and the nipple connecting to the two hoses is down inside that large rubber piece, strapped in with two plastic ties. Does this sound about right? What's the "oil trap" I keep hearing about?
What's the function of the two hoses? Can I clean them or just replace them? Man are they gunked up. How do I know when it's time to replace the trap and nipple, and not just keep cleaning them? Do I need to clean inside the place on the manifold where it connects with the flame trap?
thanks!
