Yesterday my wife's 1998 V90 cut off while sitting at a traffic light. Tonight while driving the headlights and electrical dimmed several times while driving and while sitting still. Maybe the alternator?

Also, ever since we have owned the car it has made a strange "surge" while sitting at still and idling. This doesn't happen very often, but it feels like something "adjusting" in the engine and gives the car a slight shudder/interruption in the normal smooth idle. I'm baffled...any ideas?
