The "Brake Failure" light came on in my 1989 245. Because I was going to have to walk back, I took it to the local Firestone shop. Their estimate to repair the brakes was $900 to include: Master cylinder, Brake pads, rotors, etc (both front and rear) Adding front struts and rear shocks brought total to 1500-1600 figure. (No ABS etc)(no lines needed replaced) Their explanation for high cost was that Volvo parts are expensive, and few places will work on a Volvo. I'm looking around to see if I can find a "more reasonable price"
What is the "going" price for a brake job, Master cylinder, and shocks and struts? The 1500-1600 seemed expensive to me!
What items should I check when the "Check Engine" light comes on?
