I still have a glimmering alternator light with each flash of the blinkers. The alternator shop put in bearings and new brushes today. Alternator is well grounded. Before the alternator repair, voltage across battery terminals at 900 rpm idle was 13.5. Now it's 13.2. What's the deal with this? Things got worse after the new brushes and bearings. The guy said it tested well on the machine at the shop. He said the diodes are good. He also tested the voltage regulator, which he said is fine. The problem originally started after I tried to hook up the negative battery cable when the case of the alternator was connected to the big red wire. The big red cable was touching the case, not spaced away from the case like it's supposed to be. This drew big sparks. After that episode, I've been getting this glimmering alternator light that shows up most with each blink of the blinkers. Again, new brushes haven't stopped the symtoms. Do they need time to break in??
