240 Door Speaker Followup 200

I was finally able to work something out for the door speakers in my '81. I stopped by a local independant stereo installation shop and the owner was quite familiar with the 240 problems. He sold me a pair of Alpine SPS-100A 4" speakers (125w peak, 25w RMS, 50Hz ~ 30kHz, 4 ohms) and a pair of Metra grill adapters (model 81-9100). My old speakers mounted to the door itself, the new speakers mount, along with the grill adapter, to the door panel. The installation took about 1/2 hour and sounds great...for a 240 ;-)

The only problem I ran into is that my old speaker grills were flat and will not work with the adapter plates. I have to find a set of the raised grills from a later 240...off to the boneyard again!

The combination, speakers and adapters was one hundred bucks out the door.

BTW, IPD no longer offers the Infinity speakers nor the grill adapters listed in their latest catalogue.
