Upgrade from M40 to M41... 120-130 1967

I'm about to do a project I've been putting off for nearly a year: installing an M41 from a 1800 in my 122S wagon. The M41 has the short shifter; Should I keep it or retain the original setup? I'd prefer the short shifter but not if it means heavy modification. Can I just remove the extension for the short shift, and perhaps use parts from the original tranny if necessary? What's involved in this? I believe I have all the necessary parts. Is there a good shade-tree write-up on the conversion someone could point me to?

Thanks!
