no start '90 740 700 1990

Just aquired '90 740 with 170k previous mechanic said it needed an ecu but car ran after replacing the crank sensor (top of flywheel) idle wandered (probably bad input from 02 sensor) now it wont start at all. read codes 231 and 221. cleared codes, unpluged battery overnight. now no codes, no start. have spark to plugs, have fuel and i beleive the fual pump is kicking on ok. any ideas?
