Having heard so many praises sung about the Crane XR700 ignition gizmo, I bought one two years ago and installed in accordance with the instructions for "Universal 4-6-8 Cylinder Distributor," pages 3 and 4 of the "Instructions." When I started the engine, it went into a bucking bronco rodeo routine as if I had all the wires crossed. Scared the s * * t out of me, and I promptly put the points back in. Then I took the car for a drive and blew the rings on the two middle pistons. That was, probably, strictly coincidental but, nevertheless, I've been reluctant to try the gadget again on my nicely rebuilt engine. The trauma of the experiece is wearing off, however, and it makes an only just barely adequate paper weight, so I'm almost ready to give it another go. But before I do, does anyone have any advice based on experience to offer; or, better still, does anyone have a clear, close-up picture of the optical trigger installed in a Bosch dizzy. I would be much obliged.
