I have spent the best part of this weekend making an old and really bad looking set of Coronas look nice. I tried and gave up sandblasting (too powerless compressor), paint stripper (too good paint) and heat gun (too efficient heat conductive abilities in aluminium). The tools that did the trick was Scotchbrite stripping discs in a power drill, followed by variously shaped steel brushes in a Dremel.

Basically, almost all the old paint had to go, and the pittings needed smoothing out. And the inside lips needed polishing. By spending lots of time and discs, these really bad rims now look almost like new again. Was it worth the effort? Of course not, not for Corona rims. It's just that I got this good set of 14" winter tires lying around.
Erling.
