Main Fuel Pump Current Draw. 200 1983

My '83 242TI will occasionally buck under heavy acceleration. Symptoms point to fuel system. So far I have: Replaced fuel filter, checked in-tank pump (was replaced by PO, sock is clean, hose is fine and tank is clean), and replace the main pump with a good used one. Before I started, current draw on the main pump was 9.6 amp which is a little high. Fuse #7 was very hot also. With the replacement main pump, draw is down to 9.0 amp and the bucking is minimal. I have read that the correct value is 7.5 amp or a little higher. Is 9.0 within range or am I looking at a brand new pump? Thanks. BTW, overboost switch has been temporarily bypassed.
