How to test if fuel is reaching the combustion chamber?

Is there a way to tell if the injectors are actually injecting fuel into the combustion chamber? Also, the fuel line was open for awhile while I haed the head rebuilt and I cleaned out the engine. Do I need to use starter fluid or a specil trick to restart the car? Where and how would I add started fluid if at all?
