howdy
My '66 122 sat for just a few days last week & when I drove it again, I noticed that the gas pedal was really stiff & seem to catch on something when pushed down & then would spring back if I pulled it back with my foot. I figured it just needed some lube along the linkage somewhere & continued to drive it for a couple of days untill I could take a look at it this past week-end.
I was able to trace the 'sticking' to the ball/socket connection just after the linkage comes through the firewall. Unfortunately, in my clumsy attempts to free up the connection through the use of penetrating oil & torqueing by hand the rod that goes up from that point to the main throtle shaft ... the ball end of the connection snapped off. ouch The ball had corroded quite solidly into the socket.
Now it seems that I need an entire new gas petal/linkage piece in order to get Ursula back on the road. Any thoughts on where I could get that piece real quickly (I'm in Baltimore, MD) or comments on the viablity of taking it to a shop & having the ball welded back on.
thanks
