Idle gremlins 700

Everything seem to be running fine but my plugs looked worn so I recently changed them. My '87 760T started having some idle problems. They seem most apparent when the car is cold. The car starts fine and the idle doesn't race but seems to surge before it eventually dies. It's better after it warms up but there still appears to be a slight up-and-down idle movement. What would cause this mystery?
