In tank fuel pump short? 900 1989

I recently bought a 240DL ('89) cheap from a friend. Little issues taken care of under the hood but this one is a little confusing. I noticed that there was no fuse for the in tank fuel pump so I put one in. When I tried to start it not only did the fuse blow but I also blew out the 25 amp fuse on the fender wall which apparently supplies power to the computer. I replaced the 25 amp fuse and it runs fine again. Question is how much stress is there on the main fuel pump? Can I get away for a while without the other? I'm hoping this isn't going to open a can of worms with the electrical system!
Worried.
