If I only had a brain...volvo 780 700

Hi..I was installing a new ignition switch and I see the ignition ecu near the break pedal..but I also see on the far left wall a box with a big connector...like the one that is on the bosch fuel brain on the passenger side..what is this contraption..another brain for the car? thanks..Jeffry
