Next Step ? Blinked & missed SRS codes: 740 '90 SRS code 8 & 10 & ?, will not re-set. { fuse box/cig. lighter/SRS lamp on cluster } 700

1990 740 B234F , just acquired with SRS light ON.
{ NB: water on floor due to SUN ROOF leaks }

I was able to get a bit of the SRS codes, but I blinked & missed them.
When I tried to get the codes again, was unable to.

Followed the 740 SRS FAQ { fuse box/wire > Cig. Lighter gnd }
BUT:
Codes appeared before I was ready for them:

VERY STRANGE: wire was not touching Cig. lighter, but things started happening when wire was ~ 1/2 away from Cig. lighter ground.. !!!

Ign ON, 15 sec wait, 2 sec. gnd
Blinked 1X
codes: A) larger than 6, B)8 blinks, C)10 blinks, D) nothing
Attempted reset: 3 gnd jabs (quick, 0.25 sec within 1 to 5 sec);
DID THIS several times--- got no response { NO 3 blinks & NO 4 blinks }

SRS light just stayed ON

Shut Ign OFF, waited 2 min. Ign ON SRS light ON
& retried code reading. BUT now NO CODES !!!
{ tried with engine ON ; IGN only ON , same response : NO response SRS light just stays ON }
NEXT STEP ??
