Manual vs Auto configuration 200 1980

Please pardon my ignorance but do manual & auto trannies both have the same tailshaft housing, bushing, seals and gasket? I've read Haynes and cruised the archives and it seems they might be different in connecting to the drive shaft but I don't understand why. TIA.
