What Motor do I have?? 900 1993

Hello everyone,

Im in germany and I just bought a 1993 Volvo. The back says D6 940 GL. The car is in good physical shape. The engine I think needs a little work. I had the dealer put all new brakes on it and adjust the timing becuase it was off. Since the mechanic was german it was difficult communicating with him. He also told me that the number on my papers for the car was incorrect and that I would have problems ordering parts for that model. The car smokes like a freaking train. Black smoke, especially when the turbo kicks in at about 3kRPM. Quick story on the severity of the smoke because everyone I talk to says "Its ok diesels smoke alot". I was driving on a little german road and accelerated to pass a cycler. The smoke buried the cycler completely almost making him go off road. I felt really bad and decided theres no way this car is supost to do this. I literally bury cars in smoke that are behind me when I accelerate. I get alot of angry looks on the autobahn. Its almost like smoke screen in spyhunter. Sorry getting a little carried away but you get the point. I friend of mine who works on diesel generators said its prolly valves need replacing. Ok so heres my question. How can I find out what motor I have so I can buy parts? When I went to buy oil for a change and picked up the filter the computer told me to get it was wrong. Way too small compared to the one that was on there already. Any help would be great. I posted a pic of the motor if it can help anyone also under D6 940 GL. Thanks in advance.

Dorian
