A rare loss of power for an 86 245...From good idle to cough and spit...then fine again 200

My 86 245 will idle fine, then without notice, when i go to move out and hit the accelerator, it will cough and sputter like there is no fuel...or not enough fuel, my main fuel pump is noisy and making wild whine and up and down sounds, but my in tank one was just changed a few months ago with a new filter put on it....if i shut the car off and start again...it seems to be fine..but still whining....i was thinking if it were the fuel relay...that id have no idle...not sure..maybe just go and spend big bucks on a new fuel pump??any help is appreciated...popa g
