removal of locking nut on strut tube 200

I have an 89 240 wagon. Went through all the work of removing the strut assembly from the car and of course I am not able to get the locking nut off the strut tube. Im not talking about the mount nut. I got that off with air. The haynes manual shows a special wrench (I think it's a spanner wrench) to remove the locking nut and I dont have one. I tried PB blaster amd heating it with a torch--then used big channel locks and couldn't budge it. I'm a little hesitant of using heat i'm afraid the strut will blow up(isn't there gas inside the strut?) or do I not need to worry about the explosions. Im also worried I will ruin the strut tube with the torch. Can anyone help me get the nut off before I ruin the whole thing. Why is it always the last nut that wont come off? I hate cars(when it doesnt go my way) Thanks Phil
