Rocking Rockers 200 1985

My brick has some rust in the door rockers. I took care of the rust but wonder about preventive maintenance. I'd hate to take apart the carpet to get to the rockers, but thought about flushing a laundry detergent/water mixture into the drains from the hood and engine compartment. Any comments or better ideas?
