What is this and what does it do? 700 1991

Please tell me what the "thingy" on the turbo hose is - if you copy and paste the link below into your browser you will see what I am referring to. There is a large turbo hose that connects between the turbo and the air filter box and it has a sensor of some kind on it with an electrical connection. What is it? I know the AMM is something else, and this resembles what is called a "mass air flow" sensor on Regina models, but mine is a Bosch.
