My '87 240 wagon has a front bumper air dam and both of the wrap-around side attachment points/rings are broken. It's a poor design, and I can't imagine anybody at Volvo expecting these tiny rings of plastic to hold up against a light curb scrape/nudge.
If anybody has fabricated a way of reattaching the sides of the air dam to the bumper, please post. I'd like to avoid drilling into the fender, and the final solution should prevent rubbing/chaffing of the paint on the fender. Our local bodyshops reattach broken wrap-around air dams by drilling through the plastic and the fender, and then securing the two together with sheet metal screws. I'd like to avoid this...
I know this is a common problem for 240 Volvos, and I'm hoping to avoid re-inventing the wheel if somebody has already tackled this project sucessfully. I've searched the pick-n-pull yards for the last 6 months for an air dam in good condition, but all of them have at least one broken ring, and most are in worse shape than mine.
Thanks for any help you can offer. God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.
