I will try to keep this concise.... but its going to be hard!
Ok, I was searching out grounds and electrical connectors to tighten and clean with this deoxidiser, fixed a couple lose grounds on chassis under kick panel, did some under the hood, I went in search of the airbag sensor wire connector. It turns out that, on mine, its not under the carpet on transmission tunnel, but off to the side of the fuse panel in center console. so I pulled the fuse panel to reach it but I could not pull it far enough to facilitate cleaning the thing. gave up on that part... put fuse panel back.
Here is the stupid part.... I found a long connector under the drivers side panel between the brake and gas pedal, I thought Hey think I will douse this with the connector cleaner! stupid move... I now know that that is the ezk or ignition computer, I soaked the connector and the box reciever slots... when I hooked up the battery holy crap! major short! car would only start reluctantly, instrument panel lit up like a christmass tree, turn signals, everything! the fog light switch turned on the headlights. ect
I disconnected the plug to the ezk and let is dry overnight (the connector cleaner normally evaproates quickly but this connector was packed with grease making a mess... problem persists with ezk connector unplugged...
the next day its a little better... when I turn the key, and the fuel pump primes, the instrument panel lights up, then goes out when the relay clicks again. if I try to start it it shows a heavy drain and barely kicks over.
now here is the wierd part, I discovered that if I put the turn signal on either side, the car starts normally and idles fine... no christmass tree display. however the turn signals do not work... If I deselect the turn signals it runs rough and dim christmass tree display.
I hope I made sort of clear what is going on... I have been messing with this for 2 days, replacing relays, inspecting fuse panel, pulling instrument cluster and tightning connections and checking the printed fuse there...
throughout all this I didn't blow 1 fuse...
so I figure that the ezk is toast... but what else have I screwed up? Did I fry my ecu? (though I do not know what that has to do with the lights...)
can I use a ezk from a 87 for my 90? (saw one at a junk yard as I was stuffing my pockets with relays...) what else should I check? this is driving me nuts!!!!!!
