Hello All:
My '92 recently started exhibiting symptoms of tailgate wiring harness breakage-- no center brake light or rear wiper and intermittent power lock function. Rather than spring for the replacement harnesses, I spliced about 8" of wire on to the ends of each harness and pulled them through the roof, removing the portions containing breakages. It was tedious going, but not terribly difficult. Both harnesses had been replaced before, and whoever did the work cut the ground wire out of one hinge and left the other one broken. I repaired one by soldering in a similar segment of wire and on the other side I added a ground that runs along with the harness bundle.
While I had the hinges off, I noticed there was play in both of them. Has anyone re-bushed these hinges? They are quite expensive to replace. It would seem that after pulling out the locating pin that holds the two sides together, it wouldn't be a terribly difficult task to mill out the existing metal and re-sleeve them...
