88 240 steering U joints 200

So in an effort to save the cost of repairing my leaky rack this winter I cut the p/s belt. Steering still works fine, just very tough .... manual.... my question is, will this now be putting excessive stress on the U joints? Im pretty sure they have never been replaced and I also do not plan on doing them before next spring.
