changing brake pads?? 200 1989

I'm going to attempt to replace my brake pads/rotors. Do I need any special tools other than the standard ratchets, ect. Do I need a vice to open up the calipers to fit the new brakes or will they already be open wide enough to put in the new pads? I have a manual on order but my brakes are in desperate need of a change. Does anyone know a step by step that is fairly easy? Thanks in advance. Its funny, I'm a Jet Engine Mech. and I crinch when it comes to working on cars.
