164 charging and alternator belt problems. 140-160

My new 164 is running great except the spare alternator I installed is not charging anymore. It charged 13.5V when I installed it. It's from a 240 with on-board voltage regulator so I bypassed the external regulator. The ignition lights all light up but the amp light does not come on, even though it's not charging at all. What will cause the amp light to come on? In all my experience with bad alternators, I've never had the amp light come on!

Also, I replaced the alternator belt because I needed a slightly longer one. The one I replaced was really thin and worn. The new one after two days is almost as this as the old one! I've seen 240's with worn out alternator mounting bushings that didn't eat belts like this. What else could cause this? I had to modify the 240 alternator to fit the 164, so maybe the alignment is slightly off, but not visibly.

Anyways, I love the 164.
