Warm start stalling on 89' 740GLE 700

My '89 740GLE stalls repeatedly after starting if the engine is already warm. It runs like a top after sitting for a while (several hours), but if I stop and restart it, it stalls repeatedly, I get no response from the gas pedal, and I get several backfires. After a few minutes of that, it settles itself and goes back to purring like a kitten until I turn it off again. I've run every type of fuel system cleaner through it, and am ready to start replacing parts. Any suggestions on where to start?
