Volvo 740 Engine Cuts Out; Tach Drops 700 1986

The car has two problems
1. It cuts out,tach drops only when I'm driving on 1-st or 2-ed gear,when I'm on a highway no problem. And always when the car is worm it dosen't do it when it is coled.
2. When I stop at a ligh the engine dies on me, and it is hard to start it /Only when the engine is warm/

I hear the Fule pump making strange noise/ The main fule pump under me/
Can it be that ?????
