The car is a 1991 940SE. Yesterday, on the entry ramp to a highway it won't gain power. I diconnected the AMM and coaxed it home. I am not good at things mechanical but I noticed that it seemed starved for air as it would get to a certain RPM and then retreat. So I revved it and noticed that one of the air hoses was cllapsing at the same time that the engine RPM dropped. I removed the air filter housing and while replacing the air filter noticed a build up of debris in the air filter housing--the sponge had disintegrated and clogged the air intake. I cleaned it up , put everything back together and, lo and behold ,my car was running great. However, in the prcoess of doing all this I ripped the mesh like filter on the AMM. Also, the engine light came on and I have not been able to turn it off. Could you please let me know how to turn that "Check Engne" light off? And, I would also be grateful if you let me know how to repaiir that AMM "mesh" filter.
Perhaps you now understand the title of my post, "Success and Failure."
