Steering Column Lower U-joint Removal?? 700

I just spent over an hour at the u-pull fighting with one of these to get it off...they are damn expensive new and I can get this for $5 if it comes off, does anyone have any tips for removing?

I have taken the pins/nuts/bolts out and the snap ring retaining the steering column in place to there is a little play there...I don't think I can drop the rack on this one.
