No speedo reading - next ideas? 200 1981

The speedo quit registering last week, and I checked to see if cable connections were tight. All was OK for tightness, so I thought the next step was to determine if the cable itself was broken. I unplugged from the speedo and jacked the car in the back - no turning. Today, I put in the new cable, but after same check, same result, no turn. Where do I go next with this?
