Air box thermostat removal 200 1991

Because of a suspected faulty AMM, I am replacing the air box thermostat today. I have the air box open, but having no luck getting the thermostat out.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to load back the spring to get the old thermostat out?

Haven't removed the entire air box, because the metal exaust lead doesn't look like it can survive a removal and reattchement. (clip attachments)

Thanks in advance for any quick help or suggestions.
