This board never ceases to amaze me with the wealth of knowledge of fellow brickboards. Saying that I have a question to ask ..
Volvo recommends coolant to water ratio of 50:50. Coolant serves to raise the boiling point, prevent corrosion, offer protection from freezing (hence - antifreeze) and going through the archives -lubrication for the water pump.
Now going on those facts, if say the car is used in a hot climate with a lot of stop and go traffic would it be logical to reduce the ratio to say 30:70 (coolant:water) for better cooling? Arguments for it is water has a better heat capacity than coolant per volume. And you don't need the full benefit of freeze protection. I'm wondering whether volvo's recommendation is a generic statement to compromise between diff climates. Reason I brought this up is I found that the manual for my japanese car recommending 25 to 35% coolant. Anything less it says will effect the ability to protect against corrosion.
Eager to see what other people's opinion are. If it's ok I'm planning to do that for my next coolant flush
