I've found the information in this resource to be quite useful. I'm hoping someone knows the answer to my current dilema.

I have a 1992 965 with an AW30-40 LE automatic. The tranny failed at 160000mi. My family and I were traveling and stopped for gas. As we approched the station the tranny would "catch and release" causing some jerkiness. This quickly got worse until it would not catch at all when the light turned green. Taking it in and out of gear, revving or gently accelerating, I was able to get it to a parking lot. After that it had the following symptoms: let the car cool, start it and immediately put it in gear and go, but once I let off the gas and cost, the tranny has released and the engine revs freely. Shut down, wait 30 min. and go again, in forward or reverse until lifting up off the gas.

So now I am looking for a used tranny. Are all 900 series trannies interchangeable? It looks like Volvo use an AW30-40 LE from '92-'95 but in '95 changed to an AW30-43 LE. Are the trannies the same between the live axle application in my station wagon and the irs in the sedans?
