Buying an '88 240 200

I am looking at buying an '88 240 dl . I have heard that the some early '88
240's have the biodegradable wiring harnesses. What vin #'s should I look out for that would indicate an early '88? Also, how would I check the wiring harness for deterioation? thanks much.
