So in tracing the problems in my very poorly running engine, I have come to another block. Cylinder 1 spark plug was a bit black, not wet or charred, just black; probably running rich. There are no signs of oil leaking into the cylinders, and there is negative crankcase pressure. Actually, scratch that about the oil...when it is revved hard a little puff of black smoke comes out of the exhaust. Head gasket? There's no oil in the coolant tank anyways...So I swapped in a new spark plug and a used injector a friend has, and it's no better. I tried changing the timing, cleaning the throttle body, PCV system, air filter, distributor, rotor, checked for spark, and things seem ok. It revs ok...in the higher revs it doesn't sound too bad at all actually, but the idle is really terrible. It still just doesn't pull right, feeling like sometime something's misfiring. I'll check compression tomorrow....what else could this be? Wiring harness? I just don't want to spend a bunch of money if I don't have to, but I may have to...thanks again
