Auto shift linkage 700

When I bought my 86 wagon a couple of years ago I noticed the center of the shift knob had popped out. It didn't seem to bother anything so I didn't worry about it. Last week I noticed I don't have any backup lights. I checked the bulbs and fuses and everything looks fine. A quick look through the FAQ shows the neutral safety switch is probably the problem and it's not getting actuated by the center button of the shifter because it's not attached. I went by the local wrecking yard today and can't figure out how the bottom of the shaft of that center button attaches. I totally destroyed two trying to get them apart. There must be a pic or something. I have the ZF-HP22 so don't have any overdrive button on the shift knob. Anybody been down this road?

Thanks.

Paul
