How do I completely remove the Parking brake Shoes? 200 1980

I'm changing the rotors on my '80 245DL, and I've run into a bit of a problem.

I got one side done with no problem, but now, I'm on the other side of the car. The rotor would not come off. I had already loosened the parking brake adjustor pretty far, and it had no effect.

I finally just used a hammer and got the rotor off, but I caused another problem.

One of the shoes for the parking brake came completely off. It bent up the springs and it's not going to go back on properly.

I got both shoes off, but there's this wierd brass piece on the bottom of the thing that's pretty loose now. I can't figure out how to remove it. Is it attached to the cable perhaps?

Now, is there anyway I can safely just completely remove the parking brake shoes from that side of the car until I can get replacement parts? I would just leave everything as is until I can go to the dealer/Ipd, but I'm going to need to drive the car tomorrow. What do I need to do to remove the whole thing?

Thanks, as always.
