How can I make the gas petal less sensitive? 200 1980

I've been using a '80 244 the last few days with an M-46. It looks like the car has been torn apart on the inside, but it runs well.

One problem I have though is that the gas petal is EXTREAMLY sensitive. Extremely sensitive. If you tap the petal, it revs really high. It's a lot different from my '80 245.

What would cause this to happen? I would guess the cable, but wouldn't that make the car idle high all the time anyway?

The mechanic that I borrowed the car from isn't going to care if I play around a bit with it, so I can try a few simple things.

(The clutch on this thing sure feels a hell of a lot better then the one on my '80 245... Much more "springy". I don't get it. I have a brand new clutch cable on my 245, but it still feels stiff.)
