intermittent power loss 700

Hi all,

It's been a few years since I've been back on the brickboard so I'm a bit rusty on this stuff. Guess that's a good thing if the brick's been running well for that time.

Anyways, my 1990 760T wagon has recently been exhibiting a power loss. Car will start and run fine, then in the middle of driving (doesn't need to be going uphill or anything), it would seem as if the car starts to bog down. If you were accelerating or just keeping speed, it's almost as if someone clogged the tailpipe or the fuel pump just stopped pumping. Pressing the gas pedal won't help, etc. Usually the condition lasts for a few brief moments and then the demon lets go and it goes back to normal.

Only very recently did the car actually stall while in motion and it threw out a knock sensor signal missing code (3-1-2?). At the time I stalled, turning the car off and then turning the key forward, you don't get the pump priming (not sure if that's normal...I thought the pump would always prime from the off to on key position). If I let it sit for a minute or two, keep turning the key off, then on, etc until I hear the pump whirr and prime, then it starts fine.

I've seen lots of posts with this type of problem but many solutions. Do I believe the knock sensor code or just accept it as a side effect of the car stalling out? Of the 3 or 4 times this has happened, only the last time did the car stall and finally throw out an error code.

Thanks for your ideas in advance.
