First of all always read the label, never assume a big company sent you the right lube! I had mistakenly installed Redline ATF D4 and immediately noticed lots of syncro grinding (every gear but 4th!) especially when hot, I was told that Volvo changed the specification and that D4 should cause no problems. I called the Redline technician and he confirmed that D4 was wrong,(also confirmed by brickboard members-thank you!) he also suggested the MTL instead of Type F, which they do have available BTW.
It took a few downshifts for the MTL to penetrate the D4 oil film on the syncros? but 1st gear downshifts can now be accomplished at 20-25 MPH, with the D4 it was grinding stopped at idle, going from neutral to first.
MTL= a good product IMO!
