O2 sensor contamination and FPR 700

Hi guys, My dealer, who's tweaking the car for bad smog re-test, says that my NEW O2 I put on 2 days before giving him the car might be bad. He/the service lady Informed me yesterday that the FPR was bad, with no details, and that I needed a new one(I did the vacume hose check before taking it in and didn't smell alot of gas but something faint) but I agreed since I got him to install for no additional labor and the current one looked orig. Anyways a few hours later the lady calls telling me he may want to replace the O2 since it may have been contaminated by fuel. I agreed to replace the FPR since I thought maybe a small amount of fuel had gotten by me but for the O2 to be badly contaminated by fuel going into the TB wouldn't a BIG amount have to have gone in there? If so then when I pulled that FPR Vac hose shouldn't I have smelled a huge amount of Fuel instead of the faint smell I posted about?

I guess my overall question is should I beleive this guy when he calls today wanting to replace the O2 due to what he says is contamination?
Consideration note: The car is in the city and it is alot of trouble to hitch a ride there, pull the car out, fix it, and get a ride to drop it off again. Then again like most here I also like to conserve the $. I have a $/Busy life tradeoff
